Update – St Mary’s Bells
In case you didn’t hear them, our bells rang out across the village for 5 hours on Saturday 5 May to raise funds for their restoration appeal. It is believed this is the longest continuous peal of bells in Netherbury since the first bell was installed in the tower in 1610 – quite an achievement! Our team of ringers was supported by visitors from Beaminster, Bradpole and Bridport and a steady flow of villagers added encouragement to the event. Our thanks to Charles Spencer, who started the ringing with a couple of verses from a poem by Tennyson and five hours later returned to officially “stand the bells”.
With donations during the afternoon and subsequent sponsorship it looks like we raised, through the continuing generous support of the village, an amazing £1,480! With monies received and pledged gifts this now brings our total fund value to £24,649, which is more than half way toward our target of £43,600 excluding servicing of the 200 year old clock mechanism which is a separate job. A very big thank you to all who continue to generously support fund raising for this important part our heritage.

St Mary’s Bells Appeal
St Mary’s Bells Appeal
As part of our fund raising programme for the restoration of our ancient bells the Netherbury Guild of Ringers will hold an afternoon of sponsored church bell ringing from noon until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday 5th May.
Through the generosity of many villagers and pledged financial support we have so far raised £21,400 against an estimated cost of £50,000. Please join us in the tower for refreshments and to sponsor our appeal for the restoration of the Bells of St Mary’s.
